10 Interesting facts about mobile phones!

It was 40 years ago since the first mobile phone call, which was made by Martin Cooper in New York City. This day would change the way we communicate forever.

At the end of 2012, it was estimated that 6 billion people in the world owned a mobile phone. These facts remind of us of the increased reliance and sense of normality that has become associated with the technology. Factors such as increased and more effective communication, easier access to information and International business possibilities has changed the way we live in many different ways.

-Voicemail was first added to mobile phones in 1986.

-The first mobile phone contained a battery which weighed 2pounds, took 10 hours to charge and allowed 30 minutes of talk-time.

-The 'brick' as the first mobile phone was aptly named, sold for $3,995 in the US.

-The year 1996 saw the first mobile phone with internet usage.

-The first SMS was sent in 1992 from a computer to a mobile phone in 1992 from the United Kingdom while the first SMS from a mobile phone was sent in 1993 in Finland.

-The Philippines is ranked number one in the world for number of text messages with 1.4 million text messages being sent everyday. During the late 90's and early ''00, the Country was known as the 'Text capital of the world'.

-The first photo to be publicly shared using a mobile phone took place in 1997.

-Nokia was founded in 1895 and paper manufacturing was the Business' focus.

-A study by the University of Michigan’s Institute for Social Research showed that 83% of people believe that cell phones make their lives easier. The cell phone even beat out the Internet in this survey.


The mobile phone world is constantly changing and evolving and the past 40 years is testament to that.
