What Your Phone Choice Means

Phone choices are plentiful as we all know. A new model, version, software update and design of smart phone is released every other day. The war between the big phone manufacturers is ongoing and this drives even further the multiple decisions we need to make. If only all we had to choose was the color of our new handset, wouldn't it be easier? Ask yourself five questions when buying a new phone.



Once you've decided on a phone, it has become a part of your daily necessities, you start to use it in a particular way and for specific requirements depending on why you've purchased it. 

Now, what does it signify to those around you?



Iphone

“The iPhone became a status symbol because people equated smartphone with iPhone. It actually helped the sales of many kinds of smartphones, because people finally understood what a smartphone meant.”

Apple products are deemed as the 'highest end' in the phone world with the phone being described as a 'status' symbol. 

Those with Apple products made up 32 percent of 15,818 users surveyed by Hunch in 2011; they seemed to skew older than 35, and were more likely to be female and have a graduate degree than people using other products.

Blackberry

The smartphone preferred by financial professionals, party planners and 'casual dressers' and users with a strong focus on email above other forms of online communication. The long battery life and durability attract hard-core professionals and lovers of simple phones.

The new Blackberry Z10 and Q10 was launched earlier this year. This phone is more in line with those of blackberry's competitors with touchscreen features and a brand new operating system. Will this change the perception of the Blackberry?

Android

While Android users are more widespread and therefore have a broader profile. Android users are 86% more likely to live in rural area and 10% more likely to be male (when compared with iphone users!).

Android users are also amongst the heaviest app downloaders, with on average 35 applications on their mobiles.

World Mobile Congress 2013

Speaking of all things' mobile, The World Mobile Congress 2013 took place in February in Barcelona. The event which originally was entitled GSM World and later, 3GSM World was first held in 1987. It allows for networking opportunities, education about the industry aswell as showcases and talks relating to the latest and greatest mobile technology.

It has developed immensely as the phone Industry has evolved and grown and is the 'place to be' for Telecommunications and IT Company to get their products and latest technologies known.

Attendees at the event represent more than 200 Countries across the globe while Exhibitors include Alcatel, Buzzcity. 72,000 Technology geeks and phone nerds basked in the plethera of information that was at the event, but what was it that happened and what got people the most excited?

Here are some of the highlights from the event:

-Top brass from AT&T, Telecom Italia, Vodafone, Telefónica, and China Mobile urged regulators to relax mobile regulation or else risk slowing down the pace of innovation and the associated boost in GDP (gross domestic product).


-Huawei unveiled its latest handset, the Ascend P2. The 4.7in device is said to be the "world's fastest" thanks to a new kind of 4G chip - but has a smaller screen than the D2 which the Chinese firm unveiled at the Las Vegas CES tech convention in January.

-HTC presented the new Android HTC One. We've seen several HTC models including the wildfire and desire which have become very popular due to their Android operating system, the fact they are very tidy and have built a strong reputation.

-Mozilla has made a host of announcements about its Firefox Operating System including some of the first hardware that will run the new OS.

-Samsung revealed that their next flagship phone will be released on March 14th in New York City! (Check out our blog later this week)

One factor which apparently was very evident at the event was that Smart phones are taking over from feature phones and the next 3 years will see a massive increase in the purchase of smart phones globally.
